Programmatic advertising surveys: separate Brand Lift from Qualtrics Workflows

Assess Google Brand Lift's ad measurement separately from Qualtrics research automation, with access checks, example workflow tests and ICO privacy duties.

  • Brand Lift:Google's free tool for measuring video-ad effectiveness through ad recall, brand awareness and consideration.
  • Eligible non-viewers:People eligible to see an ad who did not see it, surveyed alongside people who did.
  • Lift:The difference in responses between the two groups, used to assess an ad's influence on brand metrics.
  • Strategy and Research suite:Qualtrics' unified set of survey-design, research-panel-management and advanced-analytics tools.
  • Workflows:Qualtrics functionality for no-code actions, including follow-up emails, support tickets and HRIS updates via APIs.
  • Trigger:The input condition proposed to start a workflow action.
  • Charging unit:The usage measure that informs a research charge, such as survey responses or minutes of video feedback.

Identify the job behind each term

Brand Lift and Workflows address different jobs: one compares survey responses to assess video-ad effectiveness, while the other can carry out follow-up tasks. A platform review brief should name these requirements separately, rather than treating their shared research context as evidence of one end-to-end system.

The distinction also limits what the results can establish. A response comparison can support a conclusion about brand metrics; an email or support ticket is a separate action that needs its own evidence. Use attribution methods to record what the comparison supports and which later outcomes require separate evidence.

Check whether Brand Lift fits the campaign

Brand Lift measures video-ad effectiveness, but not every Google Ads account can use it. An advertiser must contact a Google account representative to access the tool, so confirm that condition before commissioning measurement or planning a task that depends on the results.

Google describes Brand Lift as a free tool that can help adjust and improve video and Demand Gen campaigns. Campaign format matters: auction-bought in-stream and bumper ads are supported, while in-feed video ads are currently unavailable for Brand Lift. Demand Gen campaigns require allowlisting, so record both format and access status in the test brief.

The measures are ad recall, brand awareness and consideration, rather than clicks, impressions or views. Surveys are shown to people who saw the ads and eligible non-viewers. Keep both respondent groups clear in the measurement and reporting guide, and state which brand measures their response difference is intended to assess.

Specify a workflow before the demonstration

Assess Qualtrics Workflows as research automation, not as an extension of Brand Lift. For each proposed action, name the input condition, recipient or destination, and evidence needed to show completion. This makes a demonstration test the operating requirement, rather than relying on a product label to establish suitability.

Qualtrics' Strategy and Research suite combines survey-design, research-panel-management and advanced-analytics tools on a unified platform. Its Survey Builder offers over 70 question types, with logic such as branching or embedded data; the XM Platform also includes automated actions. Ask which feature the proposed workflow uses and request a demonstration with representative test inputs.

Workflows provides no-code triggers for follow-up emails, support tickets in Jira or ServiceNow, and HRIS updates via APIs. Qualtrics says it integrates with most leading CRM, ERP/Service, Collaboration, Helpdesk and Marketing software suites. For a CRM integration assessment, specify the destination and data fields to demonstrate instead of treating a software category as proof of a working connector.

Test the hand-off with written criteria

Keep the advertising question separate from any follow-up action. For each proposed workflow, specify an input, the task to demonstrate and the evidence required for acceptance. These are test conditions to discuss, not claims that the listed inputs are preconfigured triggers; assess each demonstrated action against written criteria.

Illustrative test inputWorkflows task to demonstrateAcceptance evidence to request
Research follow-up requestedSend a follow-up emailRecorded trigger and intended test message
Research support neededCreate a support ticket in JiraRecorded trigger and matching test ticket
Research issue assigned for assistanceCreate a support ticket in ServiceNowRecorded trigger and intended test destination

Retain the requirement, demonstration record, result and decision using a review methodology. Keep the advertising measurement record apart from the workflow action record, and judge each against its own criteria. A survey result alone does not show that a later action was triggered or completed.

Compare charging units without blending costs

Brand Lift is free, but access to the account and campaign still needs checking. Qualtrics Market Research buyers must request pricing, and charges can reflect survey responses or minutes of video feedback. Record access to the measurement tool and research usage as separate commercial questions.

Qualtrics pricing and plans may differ according to industry security requirements and product availability. Request a written quote for the intended research scope and record its assumptions. A pricing models assessment should identify the charging unit, included usage and applicable terms before anyone tries to calculate a comparable total.

Set conditions for information use

Before enabling a research workflow, distinguish permission to run that workflow from permission to use personal information for marketing. The ICO's direct marketing guidance says organisations are responsible for compliance with data-protection law and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

People have the right to be informed when their personal information is collected and used for direct marketing. Privacy information should explain their data-protection rights, including the right to object to direct marketing. Check those details before enabling a follow-up email or approving its destination.

If information is later used for other activities, further privacy information must be given, assuming those activities are fair and lawful. The PECR rules on electronic mail provide the relevant regulatory reference for electronic marketing. Document the intended purpose and follow-up action in the data protection review.
